Groundwork Bridgeport Receives Financial Management Grant From the Community Foundation!
June 14, 2005 – Groundwork Bridgeport, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to beautifying and enhancing Bridgeport’s urban environment, has received a $5,000 grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation. “This grant will enable Groundwork Bridgeport to conduct its first audit,” said Executive Director Richard Tiani.
“We are a small, grassroots organization, and we cannot afford an audit. Yet, many funders will not fund us without an audit. It’s a catch 22, and we are overjoyed that the Community Foundation has stepped forward to bridge our financial gap,” said Dave Vosburg, Community Organizer.
“Many people think that Groundwork Bridgeport needs shovels, rakes, and other tools to beautify Bridgeport, and we do. But the funding the Fairfield Community Foundation has provided will enable us to apply for more grants, receive more funding, and bring bigger and better programs to Bridgeport to address the needs of this community and make Bridgeport a healthier city.”
The Fairfield County Community Foundation is a growing community foundation with assets of $64 million in over 200 different donor funds established by individuals, organizations, families and corporations to serve Fairfield County now and in the future. Through the Community Foundation, donors support programs operated by not-for-profit organizations in community and economic development, children and youth, women and girls, health and human services, the environment, arts and culture, and nonprofit organizational effectiveness.
In the past year, according to the Fairfield County Community Foundation Board Chair Wilmot Harris, the Community Foundation awarded grants to non-profit organizations totaling over $7 million.
