A Bridgeport whose physical landscape is beautiful, whose parks and other open spaces are actively utilized, and whose residents are stewards of both.

why we are here...

Groundwork Bridgeport (Groundwork) is a community based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to bring about the sustained regeneration, improvement, and management of the physical environment, by empowering people, businesses, and organizations to promote environmental, economic, and social well-being.

Since its inception in 1998, Groundwork Bridgeport’s main goal has been to convert blighted areas of the city into gardens, parks, playgrounds, and other open spaces that instill pride in the community. To accomplish these goals, the organization develops education, community service, and other programming as a means of improving the quality of life for all people in Bridgeport. Groundwork Bridgeport’s programs primarily serve and impact populations in Bridgeport that are marginalized and lacking readily accessible resources.

We believe that working with youth and in partnership with others is integral to achieving our goal to revitalize Bridgeport and grow community pride. As such, we partner with individuals, community groups, businesses and other organizations in order to identify services and programs that can meet the needs and improve the quality of life for all people who live, work, or play in Bridgeport.

The importance of community pride and responsibility in creating safe, livable neighborhoods is the basis every program and project Groundwork Bridgeport undertakes. By accomplishing organizational goals through education, community service, and partnerships, Groundwork Bridgeport is improving the lives of our residents and the future of our neighborhoods.
